Thanks to BlueTech Research analyst Vishal Wagholikar, PhD for flagging this BlueTech Alert and adding his voice, to which I added mine and Jeff Guild‘s, and in doing so we seek to harness the BlueTech Hive-Mind to generate collaborative insights from the wisdom of the many and our global footprint from Singapore to Australia, Dublin to Tokyo.

The following update caught Vishal’s eye:
Osmoflo and CERAFILTEC strengthen partnership to expand use of ceramic membrane technology

Why Vishal found this interesting:
Osmoflo and CERAFILTEC’s decision to expand their 2024 partnership from a non-exclusive agreement in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific region to an exclusive arrangement for Ceramic membranes signals growing confidence in the market traction of ceramic ultrafiltration technologies, particularly in MBR applications. This development suggests that Ceramic MBR solutions are demonstrating compelling performance and commercial viability in the region, likely driven by their durability and ability to maintain high flux in challenging wastewater streams. BlueTech’s 2024 Innovation Impact Analysis Report on Ultrafiltration identified ceramic membranes as a key emerging segment, especially for MBR, drinking water and SWRO pretreatment applications’.

Building on this, Jeff Guild, our man-on-the ground at Oz Water just met with Osmoflo, who shared insights on the rebrand of their owner, which was Hitachi Zosen Inova, now Kanadevia Corporation. An incredibly hard name to remember I am finding, not a good start for a rebrand. I have to think of a ‘Canada Divya!’ Thanks Divya Inna for the mnemonic.

So ‘Big Boss’ is a $4Bn company with a long history, Osmoflo is entrepreneurial and nimble bringing innovative technologies to market and partnering with innovators like CERAFILTEC. This is an interesting dynamic reminiscent of the successful METAWATER Co., Ltd partnership with Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc.

The opportunities for international collaboration was a key part of the Tokyo BlueTech Unplugged Workshop co-hosted with Kurita Group + Enterprise Ireland.

Osmoflo has a high recovery “Brine Squeezer” technology- a very down-to-Earth unpretentious Australian water technology name! Does what it says on the tin mate! (-;

I recently met with Julius Gloeckner, MBA, CPA, CIA, CFE. CGO at CERAFILTEC during our Brave Blue World Lighthouse reception in Paris and it was great to get the latest updates from Julius on their progress and also, to hear they found The Dynamics of Water Innovation helpful to inform their own innovation strategy!

So in summary, this is good news for Cerafiltec, it will accelerate access to new market opportunities in Ceramic MBR, Osmoflo is a company-to-watch in the region and parent group, Kanadevia Inova is re-inventing itself from legacy shipping company, to an environment technology focused company, ‘Technology for People and Planet’.
