An inspiring unforgettable moment from New York Climate week, was being in a room at Planetary Guardians with Jane Goodall , Sylvia Earle , Paul Polman, Mary Robinson and Wade Davis. And Sir Richard Branson and the Virgin Unite team.
In particular, Aoife Kelleher and I were spellbound listening to every word Jane Goodall said.
She was so alert, attentive throughout the meeting and electricfied the room from the moment she took the stage. Jane that is, not Aoife. (-;
You just know you are experiencing history.
Jane Goodall and Sylvia Earle are both in there 90’s and their dedication is inspiring. It mobilizes and energises people, and builds grassroots support for positive change. People can critique Climate Week itself, the political machinations of it, but one can’t question the sincerity of these individuals. They have devoted their lives to planetary health and made outsized contributions. As did Kongjian Yu in his. (I was sitting in that room when I received the text message about the plane crash in Brazil).
Jane Goodall and Sylvia Earle, were the first recipients in 2003 and 2004, respectively, of the Stroud Water Research Center Award. So a little surreal to find myself at Stroud the next day.
