The parallels between Creativity and Entrepreneurship were explored with The Edge, from my favourite band U2, this week on the David McWilliams podcast.
“It’s to imagine something that doesn’t exist and to try and make it real, because you have that vision and that instinct to innovate.
It’s crucial to both. And it’s something that’s so important. As we face global challenges, particularly not just economic challenges, but climate change challenges, that’s what’s going to help.”

It was a fascinating conversation and brought me back 2 years, to September 29th 2023, when I witnessed a small piece of history unfold at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
I was lucky enough to be there for the opening night of the U2 Performance, thanks to Devesh Sharma , who gifted me that ticket. I was on the ground floor, where I like to be, but that night, the VIP Boxes were a who’s who of the music and entertainment industry, inlcuding Paul McCartney, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Oprah. It was all Eyez on U2 that night.
Nobody knew what to expect. It was a closely guarded secret.
I knew 15 minutes into the show, this was a game changer.
U2 had managed to achieve the impossible, they were top of their game, pushing new boundaries, innvovating, exploring the cutting edge of immersive reality experience.
They were the first band I ever saw live, in June 1987, on the Joshua Tree tour and to stay relevant as a band, over 40 years from when they were formed, is some achievement. It means risk taking, trying new things, not being afraid to fail, and knowing standing still is not an option.
This is why I was absolutely fascinated to hear The Edge’s conversation on the David McWilliams podcast with co-host John Davis, talking about The Art of Creation, and the similarities between the entrepreneur and the creative. Edge said a Rock band, is essentially like a start-up. Its a small group that has to see something and believe it, before its a reality, and then will it into existence.
There are parallels. Both have to be a little bit punky and believe in something.
For those interested in that intersection between the creative arts, and the business world, and ideas The Gales of Creative Destruction, its a great listen.
We try to embrace the gales of creative destruction at BlueTech as do all innovative companies. The BlueTech Forum Unplugged model embraced that to create something new, creating the Isetta of Research products and making a Brave Blue World Foundation
water documentary. You just keep rolling, like a rolling stone. (-:
