‘Every river starts clean’.
This was one of the most memorable quotes for me from the Drinkable Rivers Roundtable hosted by Li An Phoa, Drinkable Rivers and attended by Cees Buisman, who together are two of my best friends in the world of water and just inspiring people to know.

It was followed up with another remark that ‘every river starts with a river through the air’.

The conversation explored ideas to help build a grass roots citizen led movement that is scalable and not reliant on any one person, that energises people to protect and regenerate our waterways. Making people feel a sense of agency and participants in something bigger was a topic that many at the table had ideas and experiences with.

For me, this was one of many highlights from Aquatech Amsterdam last week.

To help democratise participation in Our Blue World storytelling, Brave Blue World Foundation is delighted to be launching a hashtagtell your water story, photography competition on World Water Day in partnership with Environmental Photographer of the Year, EPOTY.org and CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management).

Special thanks to Darren Eckford for his leadership in helping establish this partnership.
