In September 2014, BBC UK reporter Daniel Thomas reported on the growing environmental issue of water scarcity in his article, Business finds new ways to save water for the future.
“Is there a bigger environmental problem facing the planet than climate change?” posed Thomas. Interviewing companies such as Nestle, BlueTech Research, Nutrinsic and DyeCoo, Thomas explored the less talked about environmental issue of water scarcity and what it will mean to run out of water.
BlueTech Research CEO Paul O’Callaghan contributed his thoughts on the potential impact water scarcity would have on businesses and the global economy. Thomas reported:
“From a corporate risk perspective businesses have started asking the question: ‘What would happen if we didn’t have access to water?’” says Paul O’Callaghan, chief executive of BlueTech Research, a consultancy advising on water technology.
“It could shut down production and that could impact a firm’s share price, so it’s being taken seriously by investors.”
